Description: of assessment:

Students make a claim about the merits of a design solution that reduces the impact of two weather related hazards. Students begin with a review by using a template to build a house, placing it in a plastic tub, and using a variety of materials to reduce the impact of flooding. Then students support claims about their design solutions using evidence from their testing results. Next, students make a claim about the merits of a design solution for reducing the impact of winds generated by hurricanes and tornadoes. Students use a template to build a house and reinforce it so that will withstand winds generated by moving a fan closer and closer to the house. After testing their house design, students use the evidence gathered to make a claim about the merits of their design solutions.
